Text summary

Here's the plan: get you started with eBay dropshipping and making $1–3K profit a month within the next 90 days. Everything is laid out in order, so you never have to guess what comes next.

What the guide covers

  1. Set up your eBay account (parts 2 and 3)
  2. Set up your first Amazon buyer account (part 4)
  3. List products manually to get your first sale (part 5)
  4. Follow the 90-day roadmap (part 6)
  5. Hear the three things I wish someone told me when I was just getting started (part 7)

Pay close attention and take notes. Each video is short on purpose, so do the steps as you go instead of watching everything first.

Part 2 of 7

Set up your eBay account, part 1: convert to a seller

2:03

Text summary

A brand-new eBay account comes with a low selling limit. In this part you switch it to a business account so eBay raises that limit high enough to hold thousands of listings.

Steps

  1. Make a Chrome profile for this business. On your computer, open Chrome and create a new profile. Everything for this store lives in it.
  2. Sign into Gmail and eBay in that profile. Use the exact same Gmail you used (or will use) to create the eBay account.
  3. No eBay account yet? Make one on your phone. Use your regular personal information. A simple individual account is perfectly fine to start.
  4. Check your current selling limit. Go to My eBay → Summary → Selling overview and scroll to the bottom. A new account, or an aged buyer account, usually shows something like $50,000 a month. That's too low.
  5. Switch to a business account. You want at least 10× that limit, around $500,000, so you can list 10,000 items. Go to My eBay → Summary → Account → Personal information → Account type, press Edit, choose Business, and confirm.
  6. Choose the business type. Pick Registered business if you have an LLC. Most people pick Sole proprietorship: in the US all you need is your SSN. Press Continue.
  7. Confirm your personal details, then press Continue at the bottom right.
  8. Confirm your payout information. Select your bank, sign in, and complete any verification eBay asks for.
    • If the bank sign-in gives you trouble: type gibberish in the bank search box. eBay will then offer to let you enter your bank details manually.
  9. Review and submit.
  10. Check it worked. Open Seller overview again. The monthly limit should now show 50,000 items / $500,000 or more.

Set up your eBay account, part 2: the settings

3:21

Text summary

Now set the store up properly: selling preferences, three business policies, a couple of view settings, and a store subscription. Do these once and you won't touch them again.

Selling preferences

  1. Open selling preferences. My eBay → Summary → Account → Selling preferences.
  2. Automated feedback: press Edit, tick it on, save.
  3. Return preferences: press Edit and enable RMA numbers.
  4. Back in selling preferences, turn on Listings stay active when you're out of stock and Buyers can see exactly how many items are left.
  5. Shipping preferences (top left): scroll to the bottom and tick Request buyer phone number.

Business policies

  1. Shipping policy. Open Business policies → Create policy → Shipping. Name it "Shipping Policy", description "Shipping Policy".
    • Add primary service: USPS Priority Mail (US) or Other 48 hour courier (UK).
    • Cost type: Flat, same for all buyers. Offer free shipping.
    • Handling time: 2 business days.
    • Excluded locations: exclude every location except PO Box. Press Done, then Save.
  2. Return policy. Create policy → Return. Name and description "Return Policy". Accept returns: on, within 30 days, free for the buyer (you pay return shipping), refund method money back. Save.
  3. Payment policy. Create policy → Payment. Name and description "Payment Policy". Tick Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now. Save.

View settings

  1. Check your shipping location. Search for anything on eBay (a book, for example), open an item, scroll to Shipping, and make sure the zip or post code is somewhere in your country.
  2. Show seller info in search results. In search results, click the three lines, press Customize, tick Seller information and Item number, then Apply changes.
  3. Customize your listings table. Go to Sell → Active listings → Customize table. Tick every option, including Sold quantity and Ended. Save.

Store subscription

  1. Pick a store plan. Go to Store → Manage subscriptions. A plan avoids insertion fees and makes the store look professional.
  2. Jonathan's pick: Premium, monthly (about $75 a month in the US). It covers 10,000 listings and keeps things simple.
    • Want to save a little at the start? Begin with Starter, move to Basic at 250 listings, then Premium at 1,000 listings.
    • Outside the US the plan names differ a bit, but the idea is the same.
  3. Press Submit order. Your eBay account setup is complete.

Part 4 of 7

Set up your first Amazon buyer account

1:38

Text summary

Amazon is where you'll buy the items your eBay customers order. This part sets up a normal Amazon buyer account the right way so it stays healthy as you place orders.

Steps

  1. Make a new Chrome profile for this Amazon account. One Amazon account per Chrome profile. You can have several profiles on the same computer.
  2. Already have an Amazon account? Sign into that email and Amazon in this profile. Set the delivery location to somewhere local, or at least somewhere in your country, never a different country.
  3. No Amazon account? Create one on your phone in the Amazon app with your name, your home address, and the credit card you want to use for this business. Jonathan uses the Prime credit card for 5% cash back. Then sign into it on the computer.
  4. Place your first orders to your own home. Go to Orders. The first few orders on the account must ship to your home address. These are called address verification orders. The first one is a must; a few more is better.
  5. Warm the account up slowly. After that, start placing dropshipping orders: 1 a day the first week, 2 a day the next week, and so on up to 5 a day on this account.
  6. Want more accounts? You can make up to 5 Amazon accounts on the same computer by repeating these steps with the same information.
  7. How fulfilment works. When something sells in your eBay store, buy it on Amazon and ship it straight to the customer's address.

Part 5 of 7

List products manually to get your first sale

3:32

Text summary

This is called sniping: find other dropshippers on eBay, see what they sell most, and list the same item for 5 cents less. Do it 30 times a day and you'll get a sale within a week.

Find a dropshipper to copy

  1. Grab a best seller on Amazon. Go to amazon.com → All → Best Sellers and open any item. Copy its title.
  2. Paste the title into the eBay search bar. You'll see lots of sellers offering the same item at a higher price. Those are dropshippers.
  3. Filter to only dropshippers. Set a minimum price a bit above the Amazon price (Amazon $12 → minimum about $16) and press Enter. Everyone left is very likely dropshipping. Double-check they're using the same photo as Amazon.
  4. Pick a seller with 1,000+ reviews. Open them in a new tab, click their username, then their items. Their best sellers usually show at the top. Ideally they have 6,000 or more listings.
  5. Find something they sell a lot. In the video, a shark plush had sold 23 times. That's a winner.
  6. Find the same item on Amazon. Scroll down the eBay listing, copy the Amazon title from the description, and search it on Amazon. Make sure the Amazon listing has the exact same photos.

List it yourself

  1. On the eBay listing, press "Sell one like this".
  2. Add the photos. Drag every image straight from the Amazon listing into the eBay listing (or save them and upload). Get all of them.
  3. Add a description. Write one with ChatGPT, or just use eBay's AI description.
  4. Undercut the price by 5 cents. When people search this item, they'll buy from you instead.
  5. Check the details. Condition: New (usually the default). First time listing? Open Title options and turn on custom label (SKU). If you have margin to spare, turn on ads at about 4%.
  6. Press List it. Your listing is live and you're the cheapest seller.

Repeat this 30 times a day. Jonathan's guarantee: do that and you'll get a sale within a week. This is how you start 100% manually with this business model.

Part 6 of 7

The 90-day roadmap

3:15

Text summary

Here's exactly what to do each day for the next 90 days to reach $1–3K profit a month. The idea is simple: ramp up to 100 new listings a day and keep it there.

Day by day

  1. Day 1Set up and list your first item
    • Set up your eBay and Amazon accounts (parts 2–4).
    • List 1 item the way part 5 shows.
    • Create a 10% markdown sale and have one running every day (if you're in the US). How-to below.
    • Set your general ads rate to 4.1% on all items in your store. How-to below.
  2. Day 2List 2–3 more items
  3. Day 3List about 10 items
  4. Day 4List about 20 items. Keep doubling each day until you're at 100 a day.
  5. Day 7–90List 100 items a day, every day
    • 10 snipes a day (the careful best-seller method from part 5).
    • 90 bulk lists a day (see below).
    • Create markdown sales weekly.
    • Double down on your winners.
  6. Day 90About 10,000 listings on your store. At that scale you'll be making sales every single day. 5–10 sales a day at roughly $4–5 profit each puts you well past $1,000 a month and pushing $2–3K.

Snipes vs. bulk lists

The listings from part 5 are called snipes. They're deliberate and take effort because you're hunting for best sellers, so aim for 10–20 of those a day. The rest of your listings can be bulk lists: any Amazon item in a price range you like that looks safe to list. Not every item needs to be perfect. Bulk listing is how you get to 100 a day without burning out.

How to create a markdown sale (about 2 minutes)

  1. Go to Marketing → Discounts and press Create sale event.
  2. Make it rule based and apply it to all items in your inventory.
  3. Set the percentage to 10%. Make sure it is not a clearance sale.
  4. Make it daily: set the start and end dates, and set it to end after 24 hours.
  5. Launch it. Have one of these running every single day.
  6. Jonathan makes all his sale events on Monday, one for each day of the week. It gives a big boost in sales from impulse purchases.

How to set a 4.1% promoted listings rate

  1. Go to Advertising → Campaigns and press Create a new campaign.
  2. Choose a General campaign and apply it to all your listings.
  3. Set the rate to 4.1%. This gives eBay a reason to push your listings out even more.

That's really it. This is designed to be a very simple way to make your first $1,000–3,000 a month in profit online. What matters most is consistency.

Part 7 of 7

Three things I wish someone told me when I was starting out

2:59

Text summary

You've got the full setup now. Before you go, three pieces of advice that would have saved Jonathan a lot of mistakes.

  1. 1
Go one step at a time

Don't worry about $1K a month until your store is set up. Don't worry about $10K a month until you're making $3–5K. Solve the $1,000 question before the $100,000 question, otherwise you risk burning out. This business looks easy from the outside, but there's a lot to learn down the line as you grow and keep your results.

  2. 2
Ask people more experienced than you before any big decision

This is the reason Jonathan has avoided so many issues. Anyone who's been in this space longer than you has probably already dealt with most of the problems you're facing. If you don't ask, there's a lot of room for silly mistakes. Jonathan can connect you with people in the US, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, the UK, and Italy.

  3. 3
    Stay consistent

Don't underestimate how much small daily actions compound into huge results. Think of the 98/2 rule: 98% of the work gets you 2% of the results, and it's the last 2% that separates you from the competition. Stay consistent even when you don't feel like it. It pays dividends.
